Penggunaan selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (Ssri) telah jarang berhubungan dengan hiponatremia, kadang-kadang sekunder untuk pengembangan sindrom tidak pantas sekresi antidiuretik hormon (SIADH). Peristiwa ini umumnya reversibel setelah penghentian terapi SSRI dan/atau intervensi medis. SSRI yang berhubungan dengan hiponatremia mungkin lebih umum pada orang tua pasien wanita dan mereka yang volume-habis atau menerima penyerta terapi diuretik. Hati-hati dapat dibenarkan bila SSRI terapi ini diberikan pada pasien ini dan pasien dengan hiponatremia yang sudah ada sebelumnya atau SIADH. Serum elektrolit, terutama natrium serta BUN dan kreatinin plasma harus dimonitor secara teratur.
