Konsumen:

Hepatotoksisitas termasuk asidosis laktat, parah hepatomegali dengan steatosis, hepatitis fulminan, dan gagal hati telah dikaitkan dengan penggunaan beberapa nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs) sendiri atau dalam kombinasi dengan antiretroviral lain agen. Terapi dengan NRTIs harus diberikan hati-hati pada pasien dengan penyakit hati yang sudah ada sebelumnya, riwayat penyalahgunaan alkohol, atau hepatitis. Terapi harus dihentikan jika klinis atau temuan laboratorium sugestif dari asidosis laktat atau diucapkan hepatotoksisitas terjadi. Penggunaan abacavir merupakan kontraindikasi pada pasien dengan moderat untuk gangguan hati berat seperti keamanan dan kemanjuran belum ditetapkan pada pasien-pasien ini.
