Kortikosteroid dapat menyebabkan penyakit ulkus peptikum dan gastrointestinal (GI) pendarahan, biasanya ketika diberikan dalam dosis tinggi atau untuk waktu yang lama. Namun, bahkan konvensional dosis yang dapat memperburuk gejala-gejala pada pasien dengan riwayat tukak lambung. Tertunda penyembuhan luka juga telah dilaporkan. Terapi dengan kortikosteroid harus dihindari atau diberikan dengan hati-hati pada pasien dengan aktif atau laten tukak lambung atau faktor risiko lain untuk perdarahan GI. Beberapa dokter merekomendasikan penggunaan profilaksis antasid atau H2-antagonis antara waktu makan ketika dosis besar kortikosteroid diperlukan.
