Konsumen:

Simpatomimetik agen dapat menyebabkan efek kardiovaskular yang merugikan, terutama bila digunakan dalam dosis tinggi dan/atau pada pasien yang rentan. Di jantung jaringan, agen-agen ini dapat menghasilkan positif chronotropic dan efek inotropik melalui stimulasi beta - 1 reseptor adrenergik. Cardiac output, konsumsi oksigen dan kerja jantung dapat meningkat. Di perifer pembuluh darah, vasokonstriksi dapat terjadi melalui stimulasi alfa-1 adrenergik reseptor. Palpitasi, takikardia, aritmia, hipertensi, refleks bradikardia, oklusi koroner, vaskulitis serebral, infark miokard, gagal jantung, dan kematian telah pernah dilaporkan. Agen-agen ini, terutama ephedra alkaloid (efedrin, ma huang, fenilpropanolamin), juga dapat mempengaruhi pasien untuk hemoragik dan stroke iskemik. Terapi dengan agen simpatomimetik umumnya harus dihindari atau diberikan dengan hati-hati pada pasien dengan sensitivitas terhadap simpatomimetik amin, hipertiroidisme, atau mendasari kardiovaskular atau serebrovaskular gangguan. Agen-agen ini tidak boleh digunakan pada pasien dengan penyakit arteri koroner berat atau parah/hipertensi yang tidak terkontrol.
